Free Nursery Places
Every 3 and 4 year old is entitled to 15 hours per week of free, high quality early learning and care for up to 38 weeks of the year from the term following their third birthday. More flexibility so not restricted to morning or afternoon sessions. A free place is part time lasting for at least 3 hours, for up to 5 sessions a week for 33 to 38 weeks in the year. A free place is available in different types of settings including council nursery schools and classes, most day nurseries, pre-schools/playgroups and independent schools and a limited number of childminders. All of which are required to cover Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) of the National Curriculum.

Two Year Old Entitlement:
From 2013, two year old children who meet free school meal eligibility criteria and those looked after by the local authority will be entitled to 570 hours free early education.
