Family Link Closure
It is with great sadness that the trustees have taken the decision to close Family Link in March 2015 after 32 years of operation.
Our charity, initially called PRAMS (Postnatal Resource Association for Mothers in Stockport) was founded by a small group of volunteers who recognised that parents often become isolated and do not know where to turn for guidance. Even though times have changed we believe that many of the issues families faced then are still the same today.
PRAMS became Family Link in December 1999 and in 2001 won the contract to deliver the Family Information Service on behalf of Stockport Council. Budget cuts brought this contract to an end in January 2014.
For the past two years our services have included childcare and leisure information for local families, training and support for childcare providers, Pre-employability Courses for young and lone parents and a Fuel Debt Advice Service which has helped many families to reduce or clear fuel and water debts and maximise their income.
In recent years we have been facing a very difficult financial challenge and despite hard work and intensive effort we have been unable to secure sufficient funding to continue.
We are extremely disappointed as we do still believe there is a need for our service and we have really enjoyed supporting Stockport families.
We would like to thank all the parents, carers, professionals and organisations we have worked with and who have supported us along the way.
Family Link’s phone lines will close on Friday 13th March 2015. For any enquiries where you may previously have contacted Family Link please telephone Stockport Council Direct Centre on 0161 217 6028.
